Is it possible for you to make money online as Nigerian from Ibadan? Why not? Anyone can make money online. I'm based in Ibadan and I've made a couple of dollars.
First, let's talk about different ways Nigerians make money online:
Blogging:
This is a popular way Nigerians make money only. It's process of creating a website and start writing (blogging) about a matter of interest in the society. People will start visiting your website and you will start making money.
Simple?
If this is as easy as it sounds, I should be a billionaire by now. Though blogging is one of the simplest ways to make money online as you can start with zero investment, it requires a lot of courage, endurance and persistence to get to the level where you will start banking a lot of money.
Case Study 1: Linda Ikeji
If you are someone who regularly browse the internet, or who uses the social media a lot (facebook, twitter, etc.) you must have heard of Linda Ikeji several times. She runs a blog at lindaikeji.blogspot.com. She writes about gossips, celebrities news and happenings in the country. She is one of the few people that have established themselves as top bloggers in Nigeria.
How does she make money?
She makes a lot of money from endorsements and advertisements. Because her blog is visited by thousands of Nigerians daily, both young and old, large corporations regularly ask her to advertise their brand for them paying her considerable sum of money. You can read more about her here.
When you constantly write about a matter of great interest to you or an issue that you are an expert in, it is proven that people of like mind and people who need help about the issue you write on will start visiting your blog. Before you know it you will have a circle of people loyally following your blog. And by the time you recommend a product to them that has to do with the overall message of your blog, some of them will buy it. Now imagine if it is a product that you own or one that you receive a commission on.
To illustrate this better, let me use the example of Sade.
Sade is a young mother of 2 boys. She starts a blog where she talks about the experience of bringing up 2 energetic boys as a working mom. She talks about how she easily potty trained her first son but how the second one is giving her problems.
Sade’s Blog started gaining followers. Young ladies with similar experiences with Sade started joining her blog and started reading and commenting on her blog regularly. Sade’s audience are mainly young women with kids. Popular brands like Pampers, Milo and Indomie soon started contacting Sade to place adverts on her blog for a fee.
Before you can say jack, Sade started earning a juicy income from her blog that started as a hobby.
